School Action

Weaving made by primary school children at an environment fun day in 2006. The children collected recycled materials including cloth scraps, old socks, ribbons and plastic bags then wove them together in sections to represent water, earth and sky.

The children learnt the value of creative recycling and that learning about the environment is heaps of fun. Here are some other environmental activities that you might try at your local school:

Set up an environmental education committee
Conduct an audit of the school’s use of energy, water, paper etc and production of waste.
Start a compost or worm farm.
Recycle paper and plastics.
Install a rainwater tank.
Plant a vegetable garden and harvest and cook the vegetables.
Hold regular “Walk to School” mornings.
Participate in Clean Up Australia Day, Plant a Tree Day and other special environmental days.
Hold an environmental fun day.
